Africa
Below is a passage from Aces and Kings where God spoke directly to me:
When I traveled to Africa to meet with sojourners from around the country, I found myself alone in a large hotel lobby suffering from jet lag or maybe Holy Spirit lag. It seemed either due to my body clock being a little off, or the fact that the Holy Spirit kept waking me up saying, "If you really love me feed my sheep," I found myself in the lobby in the wee morning hours. There was a man sitting in the lobby, quiet and sullen (probably tired). God told me, "Tell Him what I told you." I said, "You mean the feed my sheep stuff?" He said, "That's the one!"
I replied, "Are you sure? I don't know him. He might think I'm crazy and he probably doesn't speak English anyway. Besides, I'm tired and that's probably not really You talking to me."
I did not speak to the man. I went about my day planting gardens. That night I was exhausted and fell right asleep just to find myself awake again in the wee early morning hours counting my "If you really love me feed my sheep"'s even stronger than before. I went down to the lobby and the same man was there. God smiled and said, "Listen, tell him what I said or we can do this again tomorrow." So I said, "Excuse me Sir, I don't know you but I have to tell you something a little strange." He said, "Ok" I said, "God wanted me to tell you, 'if you really love me, feed my sheep.'"
He said, "Thank you, I know exactly what that means. You just confirmed something for me. As a matter of fact, you are the second person who has told me that today!" (It was 4 AM).
Later in our meeting, the man made a commitment for greater ministry in Africa. He identified himself as a relative of Bruce Wilkerson, the organizer of the Dream for Africa movement and the author of The Prayer of Jabez. Based on what he said, I supposed that my words along with my predecessor's were the confirmation he needed to make that commitment. I often wondered what it would have been like to have been the first person to speak those words to him. God taught me that day that his plan will be accomplished. He does not need me. He wants me! But if I am stubborn, He will get someone else who is willing. I never want to miss another opportunity to be used by God!
Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please. From the east I summon a bird of prey, from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose. What I have said, that will I bring about. What I have planned, that will I do. (Isaiah 46: 9-11, Emphasis mine)
